Five Brothers Downtown

While sitting down this past Friday afternoon with Fred Markle, looking over the post office photos that had been added to the Digital Repository website, Fred got to noticing more of the background imagery.  I hadn’t actually spent the time to look closely yet.  Fred had stated he hadn’t ever recalled seeing any photos from those angles and was looking to confirm several stories about the past. One of the stories was that in the early days, the Bonhams building on South Main used to have a ramp along the side that went upstairs. According to the story, they would store horse buggies and Model T’s up there. We did not see any evidence of this in the photo, but what we did see was the “Five Brothers Pipe Smoking Tobacco” ad in the background. The ad has long since faded and been covered from history.
