Muril Blume

Muril Eugene Blume, age 86, of Linton, passed away peacefully at 9:26 am on Wednesday, January 6, 2021, at Greene County General Hospital in Linton.  He was born in Greene County on July 20, 1934, the son Arvel W. & Geneva Irene (Walters) Blume.

Muril was a Naval veteran of the Korean War, receiving the National Defense Service Ribbon and the Navy Occupation Medal.  

Muril retired from Indiana Bell Telephone & Ameritech in 1995 after almost 40 years of service as a switching technician.  

He was a member of the First United Methodist Church, American Legion Post #22, and VFW Post #7118, all of Linton, was Past Master of F & AM Lodge #560 of Linton, Past Most Wise Master of Scottish Rite Valley of Terre Haute, Past President-33rd Degree of Terre Haute A.A.S.R. Association, member of Brazil York Rite Masonic Lodge, of Zorah Shrine of Terre Haute, of the Greene County Shrine Club, of Eastern Star Colombian Chapter #140 of Linton, and of Royal Order of Scotland Provincial Grand Lodge of Edinburgh, Scotland.  

Muril enjoyed golfing, walking and sharing stories of his days in the Navy.  He was also proud of his Masonic work and glad to be a part of graveside rites for veterans.

He is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Ingle Jill & Kip Hoffer of Bloomington, a granddaughter and grandson-in-law, Cristina & Trent Spencer of Alexandria, VA, and his sister, Roma Kay Stark of West Lake Village, CA.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Joan (Purcell) Blume, a granddaughter, Julie Lynn Hoffer, and two brothers, Lowell R. Blume and Lloyd R. Blume.  

Public visitation will be held at Welch & Cornett Funeral Home in Linton on Thursday, January 14, 2021, from 4 – 8 pm.  

Private Funeral Service, Masonic Service, and 33rd Degree Service will be held at the funeral home on Friday, January 15. It will be webcast for the public to view.  Burial will follow at Fairview Cemetery in Linton, with military rites conducted by Linton American Legion Post #22 and VFW Post #7118.

Due to state regulation, 25 people or less will be allowed in the funeral home at one time, and facemask must be worn.
