Evelyn Jane Simmons (Jane), 95 of Sullivan, IN passed away Monday, January 4, 2021 at Columbus Regional Hospital in Columbus, IN.

She was born in Sullivan County, IN January 1, 1926 the daughter of Ollie Terhune and Flora (Borders) Terhune.

She married her husband of over 30 years, John B. Simmons in 1950 and they had two children, Becky A. and John T.

She graduated from Dugger Union High School, Class of ’44 and entered the WW II Navy Nurse Cadet Program and with the end of the war she continued in her nursing program graduating from Union Hospital Nursing as a Registered Nurse. Her duties in the nursing profession included teaching, office nurse, surgical nurse, house supervisor, geriatrics and emergency health care. She had three loves to her life, her loving Savior and His church, her family and nursing.  Nursing was not a job but a chance to bring healing to another’s suffering.

Jane enjoyed crafts of all kinds and owned a craft business in Sullivan called Country Fixins’.  She enjoyed sharing her creativity with others as evidenced by making all the ladies in church a scarf.  She was also a Mary Kay lady for several years.  On numerous occasions she traveled to Dallas, TX to visit Mary Kay and received awards of furs and diamonds.  She never drove the elusive pink Cadillac.

We are blessed to have had a Christian mother who lived a life of service to her Lord, her family, and to those who were fortunate enough to know her.  She was truly happiest when she was helping others.

Honorary pallbearers are: Eric Barcus, John A. Simmons, Charles Schonberger, Robert Schonberger, Reece Martindale and Wyatt Barcus.

Jane was a member of the Dugger Church of Christ, and grew up worshiping, was baptized and married in this church. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions to the Dugger Church of Christ, 1273 SR 159, Dugger, IN 47848 would be appreciated.

We express sincere heartfelt gratitude to Breckenridge Health and Rehab for loving and caring for our mother.

Jane believed no one died alone because Jesus was always with them.  Due to current events in our world, her family is comforted knowing she had this faith.
