Chester “Ray” Shonk

Chester “Ray” Shonk, wonderful husband, father, grandfather “Pop”, and great grandfather passed away peacefully on February 21, 2021 in a local hospital. Ray was born to Chester and Cecilia Shonk on August 15, 1928 in Linton, Indiana. He married the love of his life, Betty Ranard. They had one child, their daughter, Lynn. Their union lasting a memorable 61 years.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Betty, and his granddaughter-in-law, Margaret Fielding Kaucher. Ray is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Lynn and Jim Kaucher; grandsons, Brian Kaucher and his wife, Corrinne and Darrin Kaucher and his wife, Abbie, and three great grandchildren, Miles, Makenzie and Ivy.

Ray served in the army during the Korean War and was awarded the Purple Heart. He was a Life Member of the 32nd Scottish Rite of Free Masonry and an avid private pilot. He and his family lived in many locations in the United States before finally settling in Houston Texas in 1966. His biggest joy was spending time with family whether at home, on a lake, or camping in his RV, there were so many memorable times shared together.

Ray was known for his gentle demeanor, and cheerful approach to life; he always had a smile on his face. He will be dearly missed by all that knew him.
