Charles Hayes Roach, 70, of Bloomfield passed away on December 26 from complications following a surgery.
A retired educator and farmer, he taught social studies to thousands of students, first for two years in Mooresville and then for 27 years at Bloomfield Middle and High School, where he perfected his trademark discussions of current events. He also spent five years as principal at Union High School in Dugger.
His life revolved around his family. He is survived by his wife, Brenda (Groves); their sons and daughter-in-law, Austin, Keith, and Amanda; and their grandchildren, Avery and Margot. He is also survived by his sisters and brothers-in-law, Dorothy and Robert Adams and Martha and Tom Bishop, and their families. He was preceded in death by his father, Charles, and mother, Lou Ellen. He was proud to have raised his boys on the farm that has been in the family since 1863.
Chuck was kind, smart, creative, and thoughtful. He always had a plan and was quick with a joke. A two-time Indiana University alumnus, he loved watching IU basketball and football, reading and watching Westerns, mercilessly trumping in during games of euchre, and doing anything and everything with his grandkids. He was a member of AARP and ISTA/NEA-Retired, and he attended First Christian Church in Bloomfield.
A celebration of his life will be held sometime in 2022. In lieu of flowers, please consider a contribution to the Autism Society of Indiana (autismsocietyofindiana.org) or People & Animal Learning Services (palstherapy.org).
