Bassler: Lowering Energy Bills for Hoosiers

From Indiana Senate Republicans:

Hoosiers deserve reliable energy at an affordable price. Unfortunately, we’ve seen too many utility companies seeking big price hikes in recent years.

That’s why I supported a new law this year that limits utility company profits if they fail to keep their energy rates affordable for customers.

This new model is the biggest change to our electricity ratemaking process in over a century. Our state has historically operated under a cost-of-service model, where companies could charge customers to recoup their costs. But, going forward, the amount utilities can collect will be based in part on the quality of service they provide to customers.

This law also supports Hoosiers by expanding assistance programs for low-income customers.

Senate Republicans will continue to make affordability one of their top priorities as the 2027 budget session approaches.
