Robert ‘Bob’ Courtney

Robert (Bob) Courtney, 86, of Peru, slipped into eternity Sunday, July 14, 2024. He was born in Elnora, IN on June 9, 1938, the son of Earl and Mildred Poore Courtney, Sr. Bob married Linda Porter on Sept. 14, 1958 and she survives.

Bob was a deeply patriotic man, serving 22 years in the Air Force including a tour in Vietman. His military decorations include the Air Force Meritorious Service Medal, the Air Force Longevity Medal, the Air Force Good Conduct Medal, the Air Force Commendation Medal and the National Defense Service Medal. After retirement, Bob worked an additional 20 years for Crane Naval Weapons Depot, traveling 48 times to the Middle East. One of his proudest moments was as an honor guard for the Elvis Presley funeral. Bob was an avid outdoorsman, particularly with hunting and fishing. He was a 50 year member of the Elnora Masonic Lodge and faithfully attended McGrawsville Community Church. After moving to Peru in 2009, he became very involved with the Converse Wood Carvers.

In addition to his wife Linda, Bob leaves behind a daughter, Tanya (Tim) Cox and a son, Michael (Jennifer) Courtney; grandchildren, Joshua (Paula) Cox, Matthew (Alli) Cox, Aaron (Jade) Cox, Rebekah (Gabe) Raffa, Melanie (Shad) White and Nolan Courtney. Great-grandchildren include Olivia, Reagan and Jolie Cox, Callen Cox and Cecilia Cox. He is also survived by brothers, Stanley and Gary.

Bob was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Earl Courtney, Jr.

A service celebrating the life of Bob Courtney will be held at 2:00 P.M., Saturday, July 20, 2024 at the Eikenberry-Eddy Funeral Home, 84 W. Main St., Peru with Pastor Ryan Ramsey officiating. Family and friends will gather from 12 Noon to 2:00 P.M., Saturday, at the Eikenberry-Eddy Funeral Home.

A visitation will be held from 12 Noon to 2:00 P.M., Sunday, July 21, 2024 at the Meng Family Funeral Home, 616 E. Elnora St., Odon, IN, followed by Military Graveside Service at Plainville Cemetery, Plainville, IN.
