Mervin “Merv” Franklin

Mervin Ulysses Franklin, 94, of Spencer, passed away peacefully on September 23, 2020 at the I.U. Hospice House in Bloomington, Indiana.  Merv was born in Whitehall, Indiana on May 30, 1926 to George B. Franklin and Leafie (Thacker) Franklin.  He served his country proudly, in the United States Navy, during WWII and was a member of the VFW and American Legion.  Merv and his late wife, Doris C. (Withem) Franklin enjoyed being snowbirds in Florida for over twenty years.  He liked reading WWII books, gardening, mushroom hunting, fishing and his many grandchildren.  Merv worked for himself and was a self taught electrician. 

Merv is survived by his sons, Rex (Donna) Franklin, Mark (Robin) Franklin, James “Jim” Franklin, daughters, Cathy (Roger) Stewart, Carol (Russell) Stephenson, Marylee Franklin, twenty two grandchildren, several great grandchildren, three great-great-granchildren,  a brother, Morris Franklin, and many nieces, nephews and cousins. 

Merv was preceded in death by his parents, wife, daughter, Leafie Karen Chambers, son-in-law, Wayne Chambers, grandson, Jason Franklin, brothers, George Franklin, James Franklin, sisters, Rhoda Huber, Lorene Keep, Peggy Snapp and Shirley Herndon.

Funeral services are 4:00 PM, Sunday, September 27, 2020 at West & Parrish & Pedigo Funeral Home, 105 North Montgomery Street, Spencer. 

Visitation will be 12:00 PM until the time of service on Sunday at the funeral home. 

Contributions may be made to the I.U. Hospice House in Bloomington, through the funeral home.
