Harry “Mike” Light, 71, of Spencer, Indiana passed away Thursday, October 22, 2020 surrounded by family and friends. He was born in Greencastle, Indiana on November 6, 1948 to Harry Light and Ruth Ingalls.
Mike graduated from Spencer High School in 1966. As a proud Vietnam Veteran he served a three-year enlistment from 1968 to 1971 in the United States Navy Seabee division and honorably discharged. Mike worked as a heavy equipment operator for the local coal mines until retiring in 1995. He then worked for the Local 841 Union as an operator until officially retiring in 2009.
Mike enjoyed anything that involved putting his boat and fishing line in water. His favorite part of retirement was traveling to Dale Hollow to vacation, fish and relax with family and friends. He also loved his morning routine which involved meeting his buddies for breakfast at Crossroads 46 and making his rounds around town to visit with friends.
Mike is survived by his loving wife, Loraetta Light, two children: Steve (Christine Miracle) Light, Tim (Mandy) Light. He also leaves behind four grandchildren: Taylar Ranard, Michael Light, Jerry Light and Cullen Light. Siblings: Brenda (Jo) Beaman, Linda (Steve) Riggs, Sheila (Chip) Dendinger , Sarah (Jay) Bailey and Lisa (Tony) Bunch.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Harry Light and Ruth Ingalls.
Visitation will be held Tuesday from 5-8 PM and on Wednesday from 10:00 AM until the time of service at the funeral home.
The funeral service will be held 11:00 AM Wednesday, October 28, 2020 at West & Parrish & Pedigo Funeral Home with Rev. Jeff Fulk officiating. Interment will follow at Chambersville Cemetery in Spencer with military rites presented by the Owen County Honor Guard.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be given to the Owen County Humane Society.
