Ernest Simon, 88, of Linton, passed away at his residence on Thursday, March 18, 2021. Ernest was born in Dugger, Indiana on March 23, 1932 to Fernand Simon and Simone Alberta (Mehay) Simon. Ernest graduated from Linton High School and served his country proudly in the United States Army. He retired from Peabody Coal Company and belonged to the United Mine Workers Union Local 1410. He married the love of his life, Sylvia A. (Stewart) Simon, on November 17, 1956 and together they raised a wonderful, loving family. Ernest enjoyed fishing on the White River and traveling to Remigny, Quebec. He also loved trapping and being outdoors.
Ernest is survived by his children, Angela (Kenny) Hert, Lisa (Scott) McCombs, grandchildren, Bub Hert, Danielle Summerville, Jessica McCombs, Ryan McCombs, Robert “Robbie” Simon, great-grandchildren, Layne Summerville, Mackenzie Hert, Alea Beck, Aylin Hale, Alivia Hale, sister, Olga (Raymond) Thomas, daughter-in-law, Raquel Simon, and other extended family.
Ernest was preceded in death by his parents, wife, and one son, Robert Wayne Simon.
Funeral services are 1:00 PM, Saturday, March 27, 2021 at Welch & Cornett Funeral Home, 140 East Vincennes Street, Linton. Brother Robert Hamm will officiate. Burial with Military Graveside Rights will follow in Fairview Cemetery in Linton.
Visitation will be 4:00 PM until 8:00 PM, Friday, March 26, 2021 and again 11:00 AM until the time of service on Saturday, all at the funeral home.
Due to Covid 19 restrictions, social distancing and face mask are required to attend the services.
