Eloise Mason

Eloise (Boyd) Mason passed away on May 29, 2021 in Sullivan, Indiana. She was 101.

Eloise was born in Odon, Indiana on March 26, 1920, to Dale and Edith Boyd. She married Albert Lloyd “Cockeye” Mason on July 2, 1938, and they were married for 57 years. They had two daughters: Sheilah and Cindy. They lived for many years in Dugger, Indiana. Lloyd, Cindy, and Eloise’s sister Lorraine Ringer preceded her in death. She is survived by Sheilah (Lanier Phillips); her brother Fred Boyd; son-in-law Ron Lucas; her grandchildren Branson Phillips (Amber), Brittain Phillips (Sarah), and Delaney Kent (Scott); and her great-grandchildren Brady and Ella Kent, Samuel and Wallace Phillips, and Cole Phillips.

A life spanning more than a century is extraordinary by any measure, but Eloise’s impact on her family and friends was even more remarkable. She was thoughtful, loving, and kind, with an optimistic outlook as infectious as it is rare. Her generosity was unfailing; she shared sincere compliments and clever jokes, warm hugs and airy angel food cake. She was known for her sartorial elegance and knack for storytelling, which made her a pleasure at the bridge table, for anyone brave enough to play a hand.

Eloise always insisted that “It’ll all work out for the best,” and with her in our hearts, it’s the truth.

Graveside services were held on June 1, 2021 at the Dugger Cemetery, with Pastor Eddie Hammond officiating.
