Elizabeth “Liz” Shields, 97, of Spencer, passed away peacefully on Thursday, November 26, 2020, at the McCormicks Creek Nursing Home and Rehabilitation Center . She was born on September 6, 1923, in Spencer to Foster Livingston and Della (Bland) Livingston. Liz was one of seven children, she loved to read and skipped a grade in school, having graduated Valedictorian of her Spencer High School Class, at the age of 16. She then married Charles F. (Cy) Shields and had four wonderful daughters. She was a member of the Spencer Church of Christ. Liz belonged to the Delta Theta Tau Sorority, worked as a teachers aid. She worked at the Owen County Courthouse in several different offices and loved it. Liz loved people and sports, watching I.U. basketball and listening to the local basketball games. She loved watching Tiger Woods play golf and enjoyed watching her family on Facebook. She loved Spencer and McCormicks Creek State Park, going mushroom hunting there with her nephew Bill Wood. Although Liz never drove, she loved to travel and had been many places, including California, Arizona, Tennessee, Missouri and many others. Liz was a great Euchre player and enjoyed playing with her close friends, Anton Neff and Lois West.
Liz is survived by her daughters, Connie (Dean) Phelan, Charlene Baugh, Julia Kean, five grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, three great-great-grandchildren.
Liz was preceded in death by brothers, Harold (Pearl) Livingston, Floyd (Tempie) Livingston, Lorn Livingston, sisters, Naomi (Clifford) Wood, Ruby (Bill) Lewis, Barbara (Bob) New, one daughter, Debra Shields, and grandson, Richie Baugh.
A private family service will take place, burial will follow in Chambersville Cemetery. A celebration of life will take place at a later date after the Covid 19 Epidemic.
