Donald E. Ranard, age 79, of Spencer, passed away peacefully on Monday, October 5, 2020, at his residence. He was born in Spencer on March 8, 1941, the son of Donald R. & Bessie (Carpenter) Ranard.
Donald was a graduate of Spencer High School and joined the U.S. Army, serving during the Vietnam War . Don worked at RCA in Bloomington for 25 years, and then worked for Community Natural Gas as a meter reader, retiring in 2012.
Donald enjoyed horses, detailing cars, Bob Knight, Jeff Gordon Racing, loud country music, Dancing with the Stars, taking drives, and making people laugh.
He is survived by his two sons, Donnie (Kris) Ranard of Spencer and Danny (Brandy) Ranard of Jasonville, four step-children, Douglas (Maxine) Hutcherson of Spencer, Donnetta (William) Herrington of Spencer, Darren (Tonya) Hutcherson of Spencer, and David “Jamie” Hutcherson of Spencer, two sisters, Judy (Clyde) Harris of Spencer and Carolyn (Dave) Lewis of Whitehall, nine grandchildren, Destiny, Tony, Ty, Dustin, Hannah, Justin, Cassie, Dylen, and Jacey, and several great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Wilma Hutcherson Ranard, two sisters, Barbara Addie in 2013 and Mary Lee Ranard recently on June 18, 2018, and a brother, Jimmy Ranard on July 10, 2018.
Private Military rites will be presented by the Owen County Honor Guard held on Friday, October 9, 2020 at West & Parrish & Pedigo Funeral Home in Spencer. Burial will be held in Adel Cemetery in Spencer.
A private family viewing will be held prior to the service at the funeral home.
