David Leon Bixler, 79, of Pekin, Indiana, passed away peacefully on Friday, March 5, 2021 at home surrounded by family. He was born in Spencer, Indiana on August 17, 1941 to Ernest Pete and Martha Agnus (Butcher) Bixler.
Leon married Grace Imhausen on September 29, 1959. He retired from the stone quarry after 30 years. Leon also worked for Tuttle in Spencer and enjoyed farming. He loved tanning hides, hunting and being outdoors.
Leon is survived by his two sons, Charles (Fran) Bixler and Don (Andrea) Bixler; three siblings, Leafy “Peg” Hoffman, Raymond (Alisa) Bixler and Ella (Ronnie) Neibel; six grandchildren, Tiffani, David, Chris, Sarah, Jonathan and Joshua; and eight great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Grace Bixler, son David Leon Bixler Jr., and eight siblings Martha Deem, Shirley Bixler, Margret Allen, Ernest Bixler, Elvin Bixler, Ellis “Tub” Bixler, Stanley “Joe” Bixler and Russell Bixler.
Funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM on Sunday, March 7, 2021 at West & Parrish & Pedigo Funeral Home in Spencer, with Pastor Bill Williams officiating. Interment will follow at Riverside Cemetery.
The family will receive friends on Sunday from 12:00 PM until the time of service at the funeral home.
