Shots Fired During Stolen Vehicle Pursuit in Sullivan County

From the Indiana State Police:

At the request of Sheriff Jason Bobbitt, detectives from the Indiana State Police Putnamville Post are investigating shots being fired during a stolen vehicle pursuit at approximately 1:00 p.m. on January 16, 2026, near the 200 block in Shelburn, Indiana.

At approximately 1:00 p.m., the Sullivan County Sheriff’s Department responded to a report of a stolen vehicle in the Hymera. A deputy from the Sullivan County Sheriff’s Department was able to locate the vehicle traveling westbound on State Road 48 and pursued the stolen vehicle to County Road 200 East. The pursued vehicle stopped and attempted to back up. It was at this time that the deputy discharged his firearm at the pursued vehicle, but it continued westbound into a wooded area eventually coming to an abrupt stop. The driver exited the damaged vehicle and ran, stealing a second vehicle. Deputies were able to apprehend the driver a short time later.

The driver was then identified as Maci D. Coleman, age 31, of Jasonville. She was taken into custody by the Sullivan County Sheriff’s Department for resisting law enforcement and theft.

This is an active and ongoing Indiana State Police investigation. There is no further information to release at this time. Upon completion of their investigation, Indiana State Police detectives will submit a full report of the incident to the Sullivan County Prosecutor’s Office for review and determination of charges filed.

Under the Law, criminal charges are merely accusations, and the defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty.
