Over the past few days, a familiar complaint has surfaced repeatedly across local social media: packages shipped through FedEx have arrived in Terre Haute — and then stopped moving.
The complaints all follow a consistent pattern. Customers report paying for expedited shipping, seeing updates like “On FedEx vehicle for delivery” or “At local FedEx facility,” and then waiting days with no progress. In several cases, package search requests were opened — and later closed — with “high volume” cited as the explanation.
This isn’t an isolated delay; it’s a local area pattern.
“On the Truck” — But Not Really
Multiple residents say they were told that packages marked as “on the truck” may not actually be on a delivery vehicle. According to several firsthand accounts, the Terre Haute FedEx facility is backed up by trailers that have not yet been unloaded.
One customer reported even being told the hub is 18 trailers behind.
In practical terms, that means packages may still be sitting inside unopened trailers, even though tracking systems show them as outbound. Once that scan appears, customers have little ability to intervene or reroute delivery.
Why Expedited Shipping Isn’t Helping
Several customers said they paid extra for faster delivery — only to see their packages stalled just like standard shipments. Once packages reach a congested local hub, expedited status offers little advantage.

I’ve been experiencing similar issues with packages that pass through Terre Haute as well. In one case, a delivery showed as “out for delivery” for two days, only to be sent back to the hub and then delivered the following day by FedEx. I’m not sure how that happens, but it’s been confusing and frustrating.
Overall, I agree that this has been one of the worst holiday shipping seasons I can remember. I’ve had multiple packages arrive a day or two later than the expected delivery date, and it’s happened more than once. The ongoing delays have definitely made holiday shopping more stressful than it should be.
Not just Terre Haute, Effingham isn’t doing so hot either. Sitting there for days isn’t great for my fresh food deliveries. Spoiled meat, and the last box said “was destroyed in transit”. Very frustrating. Hire more people, and pay them fairly. All these different independent contractors don’t seem to be helping the situation. Corporate ownership might be better.
My package showed Delivered. I searched everywhere
I went on to report it missing Stated I had to wait 48 to 72 hours to report it because it may be out for delivery. Wait It Said Deluvered!!!! Suprise 2 days lster on my Deck was my package!.
Now waiting for another thats been out for delivery since Thursday!!!
I had a package sit in Terre Haute 5 days before it delivered. I called the 800 number and was told the sender shipped economy and that takes 7-10 days. In other words they were holding the package & would not deliver until the 10th day. I asked if I could take the drive & pick it up. I was to!d I would have to get permission from the sender first. FedEx ground is a joke next time I will ask my stuff be shippedUPS!
The reason you see out for delivery is because Fed Ex hands their packages off to a company that delivers them too you and they give them 24 hours after they hand them off and them marks them out for delivery. These companies that deliver for Fed Ex is not Fed Ex even though their trucks are marked Fed Ex.
Over 20 trailers sitting at the fireworks shop on 46 could be where all the over flow trucks are sitting.
I drove the semis last season. This is the exact same thing that happened last year. It is due to the unreliable contractors that hire the delivery drivers. There are several contracted companies that contract with FedEx ground. They simply pay their drivers the lowest wages possible for very long hours. There is no way I’d ever be a delivery driver when fast food pays considerably more. Last year many people went to the facility and they went to the unloaded trailers to dig them out. At one point they stopped doing 24 hour staffing and closed. I think that is terrible with everyone waiting. I see nothing has changed. As soon as I picked up the packages, fyi, it updated almost immediately to reflect it was e route to TH facility. It’s there in TH believe me.
Waited for days for a food order. When it was delivered, the driver carried it upside down.
