From the Greene County Sheriff’s Department:
On Thursday, June 19th, 2025, at about 4:15 PM Greene County Sheriff’s Department Deputies were called to the parking lot of the Greene County Jail on report of an individual looking under staff vehicles and attempting to drive off in one.
Deputies responded and located Raymond Steadman walking away from the scene.
Jail staff were advised Steadman had been seen attempting to open the hood of a grey Toyota Corolla. After being confronted by jail staff, he entered a grey Hyundai Elantra, owned by another jail staff member, and attempted to drive off. Steadman drove approximately one car-length before being stopped by jail staff. He then returned the car to its parking space.
When questioned, Steadman stated he believed the grey car was his, a grey Nissan Altima.
Raymond Steadman was charged with one count Unauthorized entry of a motor vehicle (Class B Misdemeanor) and one count Auto Theft (Level 6 Felony).

All charges are merely accusations, and all subjects are innocent until proven guilty.
