The Sullivan County Sheriff’s Office is accepting applications for the position of Courthouse Security Officer.
Courthouse security officers are responsible for all security aspects of the courthouse, including ensuring that employees and the public are safe while visiting the courthouse.
Courthouse security officers also provide security for court proceedings, ensuring the safety of juries, judges, staff, and participants in court proceedings.
Job duties include greeting the public, managing metal detectors, watching doors and security cameras, plus foot patrolling the courthouse’s grounds, watching closely for concerning activity.
Courthouse security officers play a unique role, welcoming visitors to the courthouse, and at times encountering and calming disruptive situations.
Applicants must be able to stand for long periods, be able to walk, run, and climb several flights of stairs. Additionally be able to speak clearly on a radio, be qualified on a firearm, and other training as required.
Applicants should have no felony arrests, pass a thorough background check, and may be subject to a polygraph examination.
Officers will receive on-the-job training and attend training classes, which include legal procedures, safety methods and emergency response.
