Verna Jean Raines, age 86, of Plainfield, formerly Linton, passed away peacefully at 12:09 am on Monday, May 4, 2020, at Plainfield Health Care Center. She was born in Colorado Springs, CO on May 7, 1933, the daughter of Cleo Christian & Maryanne (Novak) Christian.
She was a graduate of Columbine High School. She worked as a secretary at Colorado College in Colorado Springs. She then was a nurses aid in a few different nursing homes. She loved taking care of people her entire life. Her hobbies include playing the piano, putting puzzles together, arts and crafts as well as singing and reading. She was the best mother, grandmother and great grandmother.
Verna is survived by her children, Jerry Raines of Jasonville, Doug (Claudette) Raines of Indianapolis, Jim Raines of Indianapolis, Denny (Mary) Raines of Greenfield, Anna (Bill) Peacock of New Palestine, and Marilyn (Bill) McClelland of Brazil; 19 grandchildren; several great grandchildren; sister, Dorothy; and brother Harold.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, George Wiley Raines on May 9, 2016; son, Daryl Raines and siblings, Charles, Betty, Edna and Jimmy.
Funeral services will be held at West & Parrish & Pedigo Funeral Home in Spencer at 2:00 P.M. on Sunday, May 24, 2020. A visitation will be held Sunday, May 24, at the funeral home from 11:00 A.M. until the time of service
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Alzheimer’s Association at alz.org or Plainfield Healthcare Center – Caring Hands Unit through the funeral home.
