Joseph Spencer

Joseph Plato Spencer, 97, of Worthington, passed away peacefully on Sunday, January 3, 2021 at Autumn Trace in Linton, Indiana. Plato was born in Switz City, on May 18, 1923 to Joseph Daniel Spencer and Elizabeth Helen (McClarren) Spencer. He was a 1941 graduate of Switz City High School. Plato served his country proudly in the United States Navy, having been in the Philippines, China, Caribbean and the South Pacific. He belonged to the Worthington VFW, American Legion and the Worthington Baptist Church. Plato married the love of his life, Betty Lou (Roudebush) Spencer on November 9, 1956. Plato loved farming and did so his whole life.

Plato is survived by his children, Lynne Spencer, Andy J. (Janell) Spencer, grandchildren, Seth Daniel (Katie) Spencer, Luke Andrew Spencer (Candice Walker), and extended family and friends.

Plato was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, and brother, Emil Spencer.

Due to Indiana State Guidelines and Covid 19 restrictions, services will be private. However, the funeral will be broadcast live at 11:00 AM, Monday, January 11, on the funeral home website, on Plato’s obituary page. Burial will take place in Prairie Chapel Cemetery.
