In a move that may have gone under the local radar, the Greene County Daily World‘s long-time home on South Main Street in Linton has been officially sold. Courthouse property records confirm the transfer of ownership of the nearly 8,000-square-foot structure, which is now in the hands of a private local buyer.

Plans are already underway to repurpose the space, with at least one established local tenant lined up to occupy a portion of the building, according to two independent sources.
For decades, the building housed a full team of writers, editors, and press operators dedicated to covering Greene County. Those days appear to be over. But rather than sitting vacant or being absorbed by another out-of-town entity, the property is now under the care of someone local — with a new use that seems poised to once again serve the Linton and surrounding communities.
As for the newspaper itself, the Greene County Daily World now appears to have been fully-absorbed into the Vincennes-based Sun-Commercial, operating as part of its broader regional operations; and one former GCDW reporter is known to continue covering the local area remotely.
While the building’s sale is noteworthy in its own right as a real estate transaction, it also marks a symbolic shift: the closing of one chapter in Linton’s media landscape, and the opening of another. The repurposing of such a prominent amount of downtown space may just spark further and additional re-investment in Linton’s core.
We’ll keep you posted — perhaps with a ribbon-cutting or two!

What else was located in this building in the 1970’s?
