Two Eastern Greene County parents are facing criminal charges after their child reportedly missed ten days of school without a valid excuse, triggering Indiana’s truancy enforcement protocols.
James T. Mobley, age 41, and Lauren A. Mobley, age 27, both residents of Solsberry, Indiana, have each been charged with Failure to Comply with the Compulsory Attendance Law, a Class B Misdemeanor under Indiana law.
Both cases were officially filed on April 2nd, 2025, in Greene County Superior Court.
According to probable cause affidavits filed by Eastern Greene Police Department Chief Michael A. Coy, the initial warning was delivered on the afternoon of December 19th, 2024, when the student had already reached nine unexcused absences. Neither parent was home during the officer’s visit, but the letter was left with the student and a sibling, it was noted.
On March 26th, 2025, Chief Coy reviewed the student’s attendance record and confirmed that the child had reached ten unexcused absences as of February 21st. Despite the student passing all classes, the law mandates enforcement once absences exceed statutory thresholds.
Indiana Code requires children to attend school regularly, and failure to comply can result in legal consequences for parents or guardians. A Class B Misdemeanor in this context can carry fines or even jail time upon conviction.
The Eastern Greene Police Department has emphasized the importance of regular school attendance, particularly under the state’s compulsory education laws via this case, underscoring the growing scrutiny and stronger stance on school attendance state-wide
This is why all parents should home school. If they go to jail where does the child go? Into the system.
This particular student has had a LONG history of unexcused absences and not from just this year. Parents have had their hands slapped multiple times. Bottom line…get your kid to school!

This law is bullshit.my wife and I have both been warned in the past for this shit. Our kids are academic/athletic students but due to family vacations and unexcused sick days we were threatened. I’m not getting charged dr fees everything they are a little sick and don’t want to go
This law is absolute bullshit. They are circumstances that could easily be at play here. There are mental health disorders like school avoidance disorder that is absolutely dibilitatting to both the child and the parent. I am so thankful I sacrificed for my family and homeschooled. The education system is absolute crap and these kids are not at all equipped with the necessary information and education to be the best they can be. Schools teach these kids how to be obedient and little zombie like worker bees to better suit the pockets of the 10%. They don’t teach economics, financial literacy, or anything that is actually useful in the real world.

Eastern Greene School doesn’t care about the students education. It cares about receiving federal funds for that student. Everyday the student is absent means cuts to the federal funding for that student. Its all about money! When I was a student I would miss weeks of school traveling with my family for humanitarian and mission trips but still studied and maintained a 4.0 still The school threatened to expel me until my parents intervened with the help of some political friends. These parents don’t have those resources and therefore got a drummed up charge and a trip to the police station. Get your kids out of public school!
