A unique tribute to America’s veterans is expected to roll into Linton this year as part of the city’s America 250 celebration.
Don Max Crouse, a veteran truck driver and longtime participant in the Wreaths Across America program, says his specially decorated tractor-trailer now features photographs of more than 400 veterans from across the country. The rolling memorial serves as a traveling reminder of the sacrifices made by members of the U.S. Armed Forces.
Crouse has been involved with Wreaths Across America for 19 years and has spent the past decade helping deliver wreaths to Arlington National Cemetery. He has twice participated in the organization’s Official Escort to Arlington, traveling alongside Gold Star Families and law enforcement officers who volunteer their time to support the mission.
“My truck is my way of thanking God, veterans, and the U.S. Armed Forces for the freedom I’ve enjoyed,” Crouse said.
Local families are also invited to participate. Crouse said veterans can be added to the memorial trailer at no cost by submitting a photograph along with the veteran’s name, rank, and hometown. The images are printed free of charge through a partnership with Ewing Printing in Vincennes.
The project is a labor of love for Crouse and his wife, Cindy, who have made the annual trip to Columbia Falls, Maine—the home of Wreaths Across America—for the past 13 years. The couple, who reconnected decades after attending North Knox High School together, own the truck and continue to expand the memorial each year.
As America marks its 250th anniversary, the traveling tribute is expected to provide a meaningful reminder that behind every flag, ceremony, and celebration are the men and women who served the nation.
