Reminder: In observation of the federal holiday today, Juneteenth, U.S. Post Offices will be closed, as well as most state and local government offices. Many financial institutions and businesses will also be closed.

June 19th is Juneteenth

Celebrated each year on June 19th, Juneteenth commemorates the day in 1865 when enslaved African-Americans in Galveston, Texas were finally informed of their freedom—more than two years after the Emancipation Proclamation had been signed. Now recognized as a federal holiday, Juneteenth honors the end of slavery in the United States and serves as a time for reflection, education, and celebration of African-American culture, resilience, and contributions to the nation.
