The mainstream media are those self-appointed gatekeepers of truth, champions of “democracy,” and noble defenders of “facts” — or so they’d have you believe. In reality, they’ve become little more than a bloated, self-obsessed echo chamber of groupthink, laced with far-left ideology, lazily regurgitated talking points, and a pathological allergy to self-awareness.
Let’s be blunt: the modern press has lost its damn mind – and path.
Once upon a time, journalism meant asking hard questions, demanding accountability, and reporting facts—even when those facts were uncomfortable. Now? It’s a smug cocktail of curated outrage, selective silence and blindness, and partisan fluff, too. The Fourth Estate has become the propaganda arm of whatever corporate promotion or progressive trend is currently in vogue. Biological reality? Too controversial. The border crisis? Let’s pretend it’s a right-wing myth. Government overreach? Only bad when the “wrong” people are in charge.
Their idea of investigative journalism now amounts to copy-pasting from activist Twitter threads, with all the nuance of a sledgehammer and none of the intellectual rigor. They cannot analyze policy to save their lives. Ask them to explain the actual implications of a bill or executive order, and you’ll get a BuzzFeed-style listicle or a sanctimonious rant devoid of substance. Their intellectual laziness is only outmatched by their moral arrogance.
And let’s talk about their lies. Yes—lies. Not just “bias,” not just “slants,” but outright, bold-faced misinformation. Remember the Russia collusion frenzy? The breathless walls of coverage, the anchors whispering “the walls are closing in”? Years of innuendo, half-truths, and anonymous sources that mysteriously vanished when the truth came out. Any corrections? Retractions? Mea culpas? Ha! You’d have better luck finding Bigfoot hosting Meet the Press.
But perhaps their worst offense—the one that truly cements their irrelevance—is their failure to serve the country they claim to represent. In their quest to appear “enlightened,” they have ignored real pain, real problems, and real people. The American working class? Forgotten. Urban decay? Ignored. Rising crime, educational collapse, drug overdoses, debt, disillusionment? Too messy. Too real. Better to run another story about gender-neutral pronouns in kindergarten and pretend that is the fight that matters.
They don’t ask the tough questions because they’re too busy trying to impress each other. They don’t speak truth to power unless power has an (R) next to its name. And they certainly don’t analyze anything because analysis requires something they no longer possess: intellectual honesty.
The media is no longer a watchdog. It’s a lapdog—pampered, preening, and utterly incapable of doing the job it was supposed to do when the First Amendment was developed. And if they’re wondering why the public no longer trusts them, they should try this revolutionary new technique: a mirror.
But don’t worry. They’ll probably just call this “misinformation,” block the comment section, and publish another op-ed blaming everything on Trump, climate change, or toxic masculinity.
Bravo, modern mainstream media…. You’ve truly outdone yourselves!
