Keep in mind, property is assessed as of March 1st, and those taxes are paid one year in arrears. For example, on May 5th, 2010, a property owner tears down a garage, taxes will be assessed on the structure for that year, but will be payable in 2011 then no longer. As another example, if a garage is built upon on the property on May 5th, 2010, taxes would not be assessed on the structure until March 1st, 2011, which would be payable in 2012.
