According to Brad Feaster, Property Manager for Goose Pond, an extremely rare bird has taken a stop in our area:

“We currently have a Hooded Crane on the property. This is an ultra-rare bird (perhaps only 2 or 3 ever in North America). This particular bird just spent about 3 months at Hiawassee in TN. During that time period there were approximately 2500 people from 10 states that came to see the bird.”

I’m not even a bird enthusiast, and I find this to be pretty exciting and interesting.

Today, Charlotte Hardesty, the sole proprietor of Charlotte’s Unique Boutique, will re-open the women’s clothing store in her new location at 116 N. Main Street.  A “VIP Kickoff Event” will begin Friday, February 3rd through Sunday, February 5th — offering a shopping alternative to those not watching ‘the big game” on Sunday.  Shop online at www.ShopAtCharlottes.com

Patti took over command of the city after her late husband, Tom Jones, passed away unexpectedly in early March. We at The Lintonian are proud of Patti and what she has accomplished in such a short period of time.

Best of luck to Patti in her future endeavors. We know that she will continue to support Linton for years to come!

Sometimes there’s a reason that we long for things from the past. More often than not, just like Pepsi, Red Ryder’s, and Schwinn Bicycles, the old version is usually better. Hand-crafted, American-made, and non-disposable are all terms that come to mind when thinking of items built in the past.

If you’ve driven past the old City Hall building lately, you may have noticed that a few things have changed, that is, unless you were born in 1900 and they might just look the same.

Jeff Doris, owner of the building and the man behind the Linton Redevelopment Corporation, has had each window “pane”-stakingly recreated to match those that adorned the two story building over 100 years ago.

The building has received other treatments to go along with the facelift such as fresh paint on the cupola and decorative decorative dentil moulding around the edge of the roof.

The windows are the handy work of Marner Wood Products of Worthington, Indiana.

We’ll be keeping you up to date as progress is made on the downtown redevelopment project. In the meantime, enjoy this photo gallery!

On the tail of Jared’s post about Legends closing, I had to bring more food news.  For those of you that don’t know yet, there’s a “new” eatery downtown.  The Double Dog Trish’s Dishes The Daily Dish is located on East Vincennes street.  Catering mainly to the breakfast and lunch crowd, The Dish serves a nice assortment of sandwiches, salads, and miscellaneous food.  If you get there early enough, you can even enjoy a bowl of soupe du jour.

I’ve ate there twice now, and have enjoyed both times.  Last Friday I tried their Taco Salad, and the only bad thing I have to say about it is that they don’t offer a topping for those of us who enjoy the spicier things in life.  Today’s epicurian adventure was a cheeseburger and side salad.  Either they have the worst patty machine on earth, or these meat demons were crafted lovingly by hand–so juicy and flavorful!  For about three fifty, this is a burger you’ll have to eat.

The Dish is definitely going to be a future stop for my lunchtime escapades.  The prices are decent, the service is fast (and very friendly), and the location can’t be beat–if you’re downtown at least.  Let’s hope this time a restaurant plants good roots in 40 East Vincennes.
