According to Brad Feaster, Property Manager for Goose Pond, an extremely rare bird has taken a stop in our area:
“We currently have a Hooded Crane on the property. This is an ultra-rare bird (perhaps only 2 or 3 ever in North America). This particular bird just spent about 3 months at Hiawassee in TN. During that time period there were approximately 2500 people from 10 states that came to see the bird.”
I’m not even a bird enthusiast, and I find this to be pretty exciting and interesting.
We couldn’t have asked for a better day to celebrate our freedom. Thanks to everyone who helped put this amazing parade together! Thanks to Holly Lynn for singing the National Anthem. Photo gallery after the jump. Read the rest of this entry »
The Downy Woodpecker, probably my favorite Backyard Bird. A Bird with a sweet personality, and fun to watch. I usually have peanuts for them, but if I don’t, I make a suet out of Read the rest of this entry »
There are some beautiful hanging flower baskets available at The Country Station on Highway 54 East in Linton. Pictured here is a basket of petunias from their selection.
Spring. What a wonderful time of the year. Full of green grass, kids, and puppies. It’s a shame that we have to ruin it with all this rain.

The night sky is something we really overlook around here. We’re lucky enough to have close parks and forests with very little light pollution. On a dark, new moon night, there are some amazing things you can see just by looking up.
According to the best estimates, in 2010 the Earth is predicted to cut through the densest part of the Perseid stream sometime around 8:00 p.m. Eastern Daylight Time on Thursday.
The best window of opportunity to see the shower will be the late-night hours of Wednesday on through the first light of dawn on the morning of Thursday, and then again during the late-night hours of Aug. 12 into the predawn hours of Aug. 13.
The Moon, whose bright light almost totally wrecked last year’s shower, will have zero impact this year; unlike last year when it was just a few days past full, this year it will be new on Monday, Aug. 9, meaning that there will be absolutely no interference from it at all.
Once again, I am afraid that I may have grown up. The carnival is in town again this week, and all it has to offer to me is deep fried delicious and lemon shake-ups. High school is a fading memory, and college is…still being paid for. Despite this, I still have vivid memories of being stamped or banded every year for an all-access pass to the Linton Freedom Festival carnival. Read the rest of this entry »
